This was our last lesson so I just wanted to focus on listening and Comprehension and it was rather good one : first we watched a small slide show with audio explaining a modern art topic : the Barbizan school and its founder Rousseau - the audio had a faulty echo in the beginning so that's probably why Mery didn't get the first two answers properly. After that , we passed on to another passage that was about the history of the handbag : here she went through the passage with ease , understanding it very well . I would like to suggest her to concentrate a lot on writing and listening in order to fill in her remaining gaps and would be happy to have her among my students again

Mery had never learnt two future tenses at school ,which aren't actually commonly taught : the Future Perfect and the Future Continuous - I quickly explained them to her in order to complete the full revision of verb tenses and she got them straight away, so we could carry on to the second part of our lesson regarding "Reported Speech ". She knows rhe structure quite well in but had some difficulty in a B2 level listening test where I asked to report the conversations between the various speakers as she didn't understand parts of them

We started today's lesson by reading a C1 comprehension text about vegetarianism then we continued our verb tense revision regarding the present and past tenses - Mery can build complex sentences using all of them correctly and has understood their use very well

Phrasal verbs aren't the easiest things to remember and to master but Mery managed to get through the exercise although she had some difficulty in matching them with their definitions at the beginning of the exercise- we also finished our study on adverbs and did a listening test in which she succeeded quite easily. .

In this lesson I wanted to see Mery more involved in CAE material so I tried to test her first by making her listen to an audio file about more difficult topics such as social-mobility and work-life balance Then we had a short break where she answered to some typical Speaking test questions , followed by a difficult task concerning idiomatic phrases about interpersonal relationships . She went through the last assignment with some difficulty as this kind of material is not commonly taught at the English level she is studying at school - now I have found some good material to work on so she can really focus on improving her language skills

Today we studied and practised the two adverbs "rather " and "quite " and their uses - "quite " is a bit tricky so we also talked about gradable and ungradable adjectives and during the last part of the lesson we read a passage about "International Women's Day " with a comprehension exercise in choice statement form - Mery went throught the exercises with ease , demonstrating she understood the grammar points well and her comprehension and reading were very good apart from some very few pronunciation mistakes

Today we have revised the structure of verb"to wish " which we had studied two lessons ago , then , after an audio file with multiple choice options , we gave a look at some CAE material - a reading passage about friendship and a slight explanation about adverbs including "quite " "rather " which we will face better next time - Mery shared her experience regarding friendships with me , demonstrating to have understood the passage very well and going through the grammar exercise without too many problems

Today we had some little technical problems because at first Mery's webcam in the classroom wasn't working properly and so wasn't my chat - so I had to take notes throughout the whole lesson - in the beginning we listened to a file where she had to match the speakers with the statements and the second exercise was a newspaper article where the student had to fill in the missing paragraphs : both exercises were rather challenging but Mery managed to get through them without much hesitation. In this way we also talked about some important issues like experiments on animals and homelessness . At the end of the lesson we chatted about forms of communication and their uses .

Today we did a comprehension exercise about birthday presents where the student also had the chance to talk about herself and her own experiences- then we gave a glance at the construction of the verb " to wish " , that I think we will practise further on

Today I wanted to actually assess Mery's grammar, reading and comprehension skills - so I started with an actual FCE exam reading test sheet about weddings , then a grammar exercise and at last a speaking one about pets : Mery went through all three with ease , demonstrating her FCE level .
