Great class, Serena! During our lesson we chatted about what you did on your day off, working from home, having access to certain office equipment, unrealistic expectations and needing a change of scenery, then we did two collocation exercises. Exceptional work today! Keep up the fantastic effort!

Today's class was varied as you got the chance to speak, write, read and listen to an audio clip. We began by listening to an audio clip that had several people inviting others to different events. You matched what they said to the correct responses in the exercise that followed. Afterwards you practiced inviting me for dinner, a coffee and several other events. You did this perfectly! You went on to identify the tenses used in sentences within an exercise and matched them to their definitions. There was a list of questions given and you had to answer them using will or going to and using the present continuous or present tense. Lastly, you read the Rules of Work (Personal Standards), an interesting article and later we had a conversation about it where you used effective words, such as: dynamics and strategies. Using chat, you came up with a list of 7 of your own standards for the workplace with excellent spelling. Amazing job Serena!

Today's lesson had a great variety of activities and speaking opportunities for you. We began with an audio clip of a second part of a meeting. You successfully answered questions related to it afterwards and followed this by filling in sentence blanks from what was said in the audio and we also used the audio script to find the correct phrases. This showed that have effective listening and skimming skills! You read key expressions used for explaining plans or arrangements, inviting, recommending and responding to something and then used these in a role play with me where you had to invite me to an event. Good job! There was another role play where you had to pretend you were inviting me to an "Open Day" for your company where you spoke about what you planned to show and recommended what things to do and look out for when attending. Since we were almost at the end of today's lesson we went on to Slide 19 and completed exercise #1 and #2 where you named the tense used in sentences and then matched these to a list of descriptions for each phrase. Slide 18 can be completed on your next lesson as you need to listen to an audio clip (5.4) and then do exercises #2, 3 & 4 - as this would not have been able to be completed at the end of today's lesson, I thought it best to leave it for your next class. Super job today Serena!

Today you learned a few new words and their meaning. These were, greed, learned, bribery, deception. You read two company descriptions and spoke about whether you thought they were ethical or not and supported your opinions with facts you obtained from the articles. You described what you would do to prepare for someone's visit, such as the planning stage and the preparations required for it. We listened to an audio about an itinerary for travel and arrangements taken too. Following this audio clip, there was an exercise where you had to correct notes with the information you heard in the recording. You did this very well! Overall excellent lesson Serena! Your fluency has improved and you speak in a professional manner using proper vocabulary and tenses.

Wonderful lesson today Serena! We started a new unit (5). It began with questions asking for your opinion about what positive or negative effects companies have on the environment, followed by which companies are well known for their social responsibility followed by a final question about what company in the world may have a public image problem. You answered these very well using well thought out answers, grammatically correct sentences and you supported your opinions with examples. Your use of the words "infrastructure" and "publicize" was noted and you used them correctly when speaking. Great job! One of the exercises was to give your opinion on what makes a company an ethical business, then you went on to read an interesting article about Patagonia. Afterwards you compared your previous response to what you learned in the article. There were many questions you answered correctly and completed an exercise where you had to match words and use these in sentence blanks. You listened to an audio clip too and answered questions about it, matching nouns from a list of words to two categories - ethical or unethical. Excellent work today with all the activities and exercises Serena! Keep it up!

Today you described what the difference is between an invention and an innovation. You went on to describe what your favourite invention is and what innovation could improve work and life outside of work. You stated you would like to see an improvement at work that would include a special area to eat your lunch in (apart from just a fridge) and you learned what a "kitchenette" is in a workplace as a result of this conversation. An audio detailing projects that won an award led to matching of adjectives to phrases that were used in the recording. Afterwards, a linked exercise continued with using these phrases in sentences you came up with and wrote out. Some examples of the phrases you used in your sentences are: cutting edge technology, innovative solution, key concept, potential solution and practical approach. Serena, nice seeing you today! Great job speaking and elaborating on a variety of points and writing and reading! Keep it up!

BE, B2, Unit 3 (On schedule) to slide 15. Today we learned how to ask for and give an update, looked into the Tech-Tariff project business case and role-played a conversation using the target vocabulary. Well done, Serena! I know it was a difficult exercise but you were able to cope with it very well. I hope to see you again!
